The Number Of Baby Boomers Starting Home Based Businesses Are Growing Dramatically Here Is Why
A Slowing Economy Effects Baby Boomers Even More Drastically A
downturn in the global economy affects everyone as we all know, but it
is especially challenging for baby boomers. Why do poor economic times
affect baby boomers so severely? It's pretty simple, you see, those of
us over 50 years of age have fewer working years left to recover after
suffering the financial impacts of a recession.
Because the baby
boomer is older and quite possibly gets a larger paycheck because of
more years on the job, he may be the first to go. She may also be
perceived to have inferior skills to the younger more recently trained
individual. And after the lay off, the baby boomer is more likely to
have trouble with the retraining that may be necessary for a new job,
and less likely to get a job because of their age. In short, experience
is often not as important to employers as it seems it would be.
Baby Boomers Extend The Retirement Years So
those over 50 are at a disadvantage because of their age and how many
years they have left to work, but how does that affect their
retirement? Well, baby boomers statistically are not known for how well
they have planned for retirement anyway. Since retirement savings is
really based on compounding interest over long periods of time, it does
not look good.
With only a few years left to work, and dependent
only on what they can save and not on compounded interest earnings,
retirement with anything more than social security benefits is unlikely
if a boomer suffered a large financial loss, especially closer to the
end of their career. With social security benefits being rather small
and with questions about how long they will even be there, this is a
major concern for baby boomers.
The recent economic downturn has
really impacted the baby boomer generation as the majority of us baby
boomers who have actually built up a nest egg have seen that nest egg -
in our 401K accounts and real estate investments get tossed around - up
and down - out of control over the last 2 years!
The Home Based Business To The Rescue - Many Experts Recommend a Home Based Business Many
experts like Paul and Sarah Edwards, who wrote The Best Home Businesses
for People 50+ have suggested the wisdom of a home-based business. They
list seven reasons why they believe Baby Boomers should consider a
home-based business, some of which are "We're living longer and
healthier lives," "Ageism is a reality," and "We want to spend our
second half our way."
With
the explosive growth of the internet and it becoming such a large part
of every generations life and new techniques of marketing on the
internet, home businesses and network marketing opportunities both have
become affordable and realistic ways for making even a full time income.
Where you work, when you work and how much you work are a lot more
flexible with a home-based business. This is also a business that can
be run well into the retirement years reducing the need for a large
retirement account or trying to exist solely on social security.
